Tiger Bay Forum: Clean Campaign Pledge
In the second forum in front of the Tiger Bay Club Ron was asked about his Civic involvement beyond serving as lead negotiator for Venice Unites as they battled to limit building heights and save historic buildings. Ron listed his service over the years with United Way, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Sertoma, Civitan, with Bridge Refugee Services, on his condo board and as a member of the faculty senate when he taught journalism at the University level.
Venice Thrives’ ‘clean campaign’ pledge central during council candidates’ forum

VENICE – The question of the day at Friday’s Venice City Council candidate forum –
hosted by the South County Tiger Bay Club – revolved around the Venice Thrives
“clean campaign” pledge.
Neither Seat 1 incumbent Mitzie Fiedler, a newly minted Republican, nor fellow
Republican Dusty Feller, who is running for the Seat 2 vacancy, have signed the
pledge.
Both Democratic candidates, Joan Farrell for Seat 1 and Ron Smith for Seat 2, have
signed the pledge circulated by Venice Thrives – a successor to Venice Unites, the
grassroots citizens group that Smith represented in talks with the city of Venice to
modify the city’s development rules.
