Venice Thrives
Community Organization

Ron has deep roots in Venice and has demonstrated that he supports the values that Venice Thrives stands for: protecting our historic neighborhoods, our quality of life and Venice’s unique sense of place.

He brings excellent credentials to this position. In addition to 40+ years as a city resident, he has served as a local newspaper editor, as a prosecuting attorney and in the US Marine Corps.

This past year, Ron negotiated an agreement between Venice Unites (Venice Thrives’ predecessor) and Venice City Council that ensured residents’ overwhelming support for preserving and protecting the city’s natural and historic assets was reflected in our Land Development Regulations. It was due to his successful efforts to secure a compromise that Venice avoided a complicated referendum process that could have frozen the city’s zoning rules for months. Ultimately, both Venice Unites and City Council walked away happy with the outcome.

Ron is active in the community, honest and hard working. Very importantly, he has pledged not to accept support from dark money PACs, which have flooded Venice elections in recent years with untraceable money from across the state to elect pro-development candidates. He is the most qualified candidate for Seat 2.

We encourage you to get to know Ron and the other candidates and to ask all of them their position on accepting dark money PAC support (both direct contributions and indirect support via attack ads and mailers against their opponents). We believe that dark money – untraceable and often having passed through numerous shell organizations and PACs from outside the region before it gets spent in the Venice elections – is a threat to local control, an independent Venice City Council and fair elections.
